Benjamin Scott Folds was born in Winston-Salem (North Carolina) in 1966 and is a singer, songwriter, and record producer. He began his musical journey by learning to play the piano when he was 9 years old. He listened to songs by Elton John and Billy Joel and taught himself to play them by ear. By the time he got to high school he was playing in several bands as a pianist, bassist, or drummer. He’s best known for being the frontman and pianist of alternative rock band Ben Folds Five, with whom he’s released 4 studio albums, 1 live album, 2 compilation albums, 1 video album, and 9 singles. He’s also had a stellar solo career consisting of 5 studio albums, 2 live albums, 10 compilation albums, 2 video albums, 8 extended plays, and 18 singles. He’s also collaborated with many renowned artists such as Regina Spektor, Nick Hornby, yMusic, Amanda Palmer, Zoë Keating, East Bay Ray, Jared Reynolds, and Strindberg. He’s received many accolades such as being inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame and being initiated as an honorary brother of the men's music fraternity Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia at the University of Miami
