Bob Dylan (birth name Robert Allen Zimmerman) was born in Duluth (Minnesota) in 1941 and is a singer, songwriter, artist, and writer. He began his musical career by forming several bands in high school and when he joined university, his focus shifted from rock and roll to folk music. He’s had a stellar career with 6 studio albums, 58 singles, 11 live albums, and numerous compilation albums. He’s sold over 100 million records worldwide and he’s also the author of Tarantula; a collection of experimental prose poetry that he wrote in 1965 and 1966.He’s received many accolades including 12 Grammy Awards across various categories such as Album of the Year, Best Rock Vocal Performance (Male), Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, Best Traditional Folk Album, Best Contemporary Folk Album, and Best Historical Album. He’s also been honored with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, a Golden Globe Award, and an Academy Award. He was inducted in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 and in May 2012, President Barack Obama awarded him the highest civilian award of the United States; the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
