Jason Isbell, Alabama’s sensational Americana artist is bringing his signature sounds to the Heinz Hall!
Michael Jason Isbell was born in Green Hill (Alabama) in 1979 and is a guitarist, singer, and songwriter. His musical journey started with his grandfather and uncle teaching him to play various musical instrument. He was exposed to gospel, bluegrass, and country music and he played trumpet and French horn in high school. Growing up in Northern Alabama had a huge impact on his musical style and he later said in an interview, “I definitely don’t feel like I would be the musician that I am, or the type of songwriter, had I not come from that particular place. "The soul music that came out of there, and a lot of the soul-influenced rock and roll and country music that came out of the studios in north Alabama in the '60s and '70s had a big influence on me.” He went on to make a name for himself as a member of Drive By Truckers (an alternative country and Southern rock band based in Athens, Georgia) for six years and in 2007 he embarked on a solo career. He’s released 5 solo albums, 2 live albums, and in 2016, he won 2 Grammy Awards (for Best Americana Album and Best American Roots Song).
