The Beach Boys was formed in 1961 in Hawthorne (California) and currently consists of Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, David Marks and Bruce Johnston
They’ve had a stellar career with 29 studio albums, 8 live albums, 51 compilation albums, 23 EPs, 82 singles (36 of which were top 40 hits in the US), and they’ve sold over 100 million records worldwide. They’ve received many accolades including a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001 and their entire Pet Sounds album being inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2004. Their 2011 compilation album (The Smile Sessions) won a Grammy Award for Best Historical Album. Rolling Stone magazine awarded them ‘Band of the Year’ in 1974 and ranked them at number 12 on its 2004 list of 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. In 1980 the band got its own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and 8 years later, it was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 1998 they were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame and in 2006, Brian was inducted into the UK Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
